The Tower Of London Is Where You Are To Meet Humans And Animals, But No Ghosts

The northern bank of the River Thames has the Tower of London or Her Majesty's Royal Palace and Fortress. It is the most popular tourist destinations in the UK. The Tower has been quite famous for the presence of ghosts, but tourists need not worry about any ghosts. All this is merely a fiction.

The Norman Conquest of England on the edge of 1066 saw to its foundation being laid. Among others, William the Conqueror built the White Tower in 1078. The rulers of that time  brutally suppressed the local inhabitants under their reign. The Tower of London belittled the inhabitants of London in almost the same manner.

There are two parallel rings of walls around the castle. The walls enhance the defence of the Tower. They are a grim reminder of the days when the Tower was used as a prison from 1100-1952. But the basic purpose was to provide security to the inhabitants of the Tower who lived within the 12 acres of land enclosed within the walls.

The Tower of London has witnessed good times and bad times. Its ownership and occupancy is commonly viewed as being equivalent to ruling over the whole country. Down the centuries it has served the purpose of a treasury,  mint, a menagerie and even a public record office.

Meet all the exotic animals and pets maintained in the menagerie. This is where animals and birds of all kinds from all corners of the world can be seen. There are ostriches to be seen here along with polar bears. But this is also where you can see lions and elephants.
