Why do Italian Restaurants Hide Pricing from Women Guests?

Italian restaurants are best known for serving some of the most exclusive cuisines and wines. It is very rare to not find an Italian restaurant in most of the major cities across the globe. However, as noted in an article published by the Telegram, most Italian restaurants hide prices from women guests. This trend is quickly gaining traction across the globe.

The reviews posted online by clients are helping to fuel this bizarre tendency. Some of restaurants are taking this idea to the next level by not displaying the prices on their menus. Surprisingly, this trend was very popular in the 1950s in not only Italy but also in other countries such as Germany.

One of the main reasons why Italian restaurants prefer to not reveal the prices to women is because the restaurant owners believe women feel more ease when dining if they don’t have to contemplate the prices. As a result, they end up ordering recipes without putting into consideration the price. In a lot of cases, they are invited to dinner by their male companions who end up footing the bill.

According to a renowned hotel marketing manager, the older male clients prefer not revealing the prices to their female companions. There is also a belief that women will not really enjoy the date if they know the price of their meal especially if what they order is expensive.

When asked what happens if a woman offers to pay the bill, the manager stated that Italian women rarely offer to pay when dining with their spouses. In addition, Italian men would not want their better half to pay the bill. Nonetheless, all these excuses do not really justify the reason for this habit. There are also experts in the hospitality industry who are of the idea that this trend is tailored to provide a unique dining experience to clients who prefer dining in Italian restaurants.
